**Language Teaching Specialist PYS (Job Number: 1800744)**


**About the Position:**

The Vanderbilt
University English Language Center (VU ELC) is seeking to fill the instructor
position of a part-time, partial-year Language Teaching Specialist (LTS) to
teach in 1-to-1 speaking and writing consultations and to develop educational
resources for individuals who have a first language other than English. In
collaboration with VU ELC leadership, the LTS position facilitates the
development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational programming
to improve language-instruction outcomes for Vanderbilt University
international students, faculty, and staff. Appointments are for
ten months (July through April) and are renewable based on an evaluation
of performance.

**Key Functions andExpected Performances:**

Consults students in
1-to-1 speaking and writing consultations:

Develops educational
resources for individuals who have a first language other than English.

Oversees designated area
of programming in collaboration with other ELC instructors.

Participates in VU and
ELC meetings and functions as they pertain to ELC programming.

Plans and teaches
language classes:

Design lesson plans

Evaluates classes, and prepares
reports for submission to the Director.

Holds office hours for
meetings with students, faculty, and staff.

Performs other related
duties as assigned.


Minimum: MA in Applied
Linguistics, TESOL, or related field.

Superior English-language

Demonstrated excellence
in teaching a variety of EAP courses of all skills.

Ability to develop
educational resources-including digital resources.

Ability to design
content-based and/or project-based syllabi, activities, and tasks.

Knowledge of
language-assessment procedures.

Understanding of
second-language-acquisition processes and challenges.

Excellent interpersonal
skills and organizational skills, including ability to work

cooperatively with culturally and linguistically
diverse students, staff, and faculty.

Proficiency in the use
of technology in the classroom.
